Women’s Equality Day 2019

Women’s Equality Day

It’s Time for Equal Rights and Opportunities

On August 26th, we commemorate Women’s Equality Day.

The celebration was established to celebrate women’s right to vote. Over the years, Women’s Equality Day has also extended its reach.

Women’s Equality Day still commemorates women’s right to vote, but it also celebrates organizations who seek to provide equal opportunities in education and employment for women across the nation.

Altus Infusion continues to promote women’s equality in the workplace. We recognize that the work we do would not be possible without the valuable collaboration of the dedicated and professional women that work with us.

In honor of Women’s Equality Day, we sat down with three influential women in our organization to ask them to share their experiences working with Altus Infusion.

Our first interview was with Tanya VanHoose, BS, RN, Director of Nurse Education, and Utilization Review.

Gina Tindell LPN Nurse in Florida
Tiffany Tempel, Registered Nurse from Georgia and Rachael Black, BSN, RN, Infusion Nurse in Florida
Lindsay Benoit, HR Manager and Tanya VanHoose, BS, RN, Director of Nurse Education & Utilization Review
Amanda, RN - Malerie Phillips, Patient Advocate in NY - Brandy Freeman, MA

We sat down with Tanya and asked her five questions. These are her answers:

Q. Why do you think Altus Infusion is a great place for women in the workplace?

Tanya:

Altus Infusion has women in leadership roles across the organization.

Q. How has Altus Infusion helped you grow professionally?

Tanya:

Altus Infusion has presented me with challenges and has allowed me the space to figure out solutions and create new processes to improve my department and team. I am also lucky to have a leader who presents me with opportunities and projects that allow me to grow professionally.

Q. What has been your biggest struggle as a woman in a role of leadership?

Tanya:

Being a part of the nursing industry has allowed me to work amongst fellow women in leadership roles. While the healthcare industry is challenging and competitive, I have always felt supported and respected.

Q. What advice would you give to young women who want to seek leadership roles someday?

Tanya:

Use your voice. Let your leaders know what your careers goals are and always be proactive in seeking growth opportunities.

Q. What women have inspired you professionally?

Tanya:

I have the pleasure of working with inspiring women daily. The compassion and commitment to treating each Altus patient like family is demonstrated across the organization. It is inspiring to work amongst such a dedicated team.

Our next interview was with our HR Manager, Lindsay Benoit.

Q. Why do you think Altus Infusion is a great place for women in the workplace?

Lindsay:

It is an excellent place because of the value placed on relationships at work and life outside of work. The company values each team member as an individual and makes decisions with employees in mind. That is so important to me as a woman and mother.

Q. How has Altus Infusion helped you grow professionally?

Lindsay:

With our organization growing at such a fast pace, I have had to grow as a leader at a very fast pace as well. I have had to challenge my way of thinking to ensure I can provide the support that the company needs during this time of growth. That is not something you can gain professionally from just any organization.

Q. What has been your biggest struggle as a woman in a role of leadership?

Lindsay:

Balancing emotion and passion. Sometimes it can feel as if, as a woman in leadership, you cannot be passionate without it appearing as if you are emotional. I have had to challenge myself to balance the two.

Q. What advice would you give to young women who want to seek leadership roles someday?

Lindsay:

Do it and make it fun! Be willing to make mistakes or be in uncomfortable situations- learn from them and challenge yourself to be better tomorrow than you are today.

Q. What women have inspired you professionally?

Lindsay:

My mother, she is dedicated and always finds the positive in any work she is doing. My first HR Leader, Martha, taught me not to be afraid to make a decision, even if it is the wrong one. My second HR Leader, Kim, taught me to be consistent and to hold myself and others accountable. All of them have inspired me in different ways.

Finally, we sat down with Judy Anderson, our Network and Specialty Pharmacy Manager.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we had to cut our interview short.  However, we wanted to know what advice Judy had for other women and who has inspired her in her career.

Q. What advice would you give to young women who want to seek leadership roles someday?

Judy:

Never give up, keep learning. When asked to help a co-worker, do it if at all possible, they will be there for you when you need it. Even when it is not in your current job duties, always ask questions.   Reach outside the box; people will see you.

Q. What women have inspired you professionally?

Judy:

My biggest professional inspiration has always been my mother. She was a self-taught IT Software Systems Analyst for a major home builder company in Houston.  She was an amazing smart lady. She was always well dressed, carried herself well, and the way she was with people was amazing. I hope to be as great of a leader as she was!
